01
Define the boundary between the work and the live lane
The planning should show the shoulder work length, available lateral space, plant movements and whether any part of the activity may enter the live lane.
- Match advance warning and work-area protection to the road and speed environment.
- Treat live-lane encroachment as a change in scope rather than a minor drawing detail.
02
Site measurements and movements required
Send the road name, speed environment, work length, usable shoulder width, dates, photos and the entry, exit and positioning of work vehicles or plant.
- Identify side roads, accesses, walking or cycling routes within the work length.
- Include any high-speed or visibility constraints evident at the site.
03
Check the closure type before drafting
A brief review can determine whether the proposed activity remains a shoulder closure or needs a different traffic arrangement because of space or movement constraints.
- Provide recent photos taken in both travel directions where possible.
- Confirm whether the request includes planning only or on-site establishment as well.
