The road, work method, dates, traffic environment and responsible authority determine the actual planning and operational response.

What does a Far North road-corridor job require?

YourTMP can prepare Far North TMP and CAR material and deliver the approved on-site traffic-management setup, monitoring, authorised changes and uplift. Far North District Council or NZTA remains the approving authority, and remote-area mobilisation is confirmed before booking.

02

Prepare the Far North CAR and TMP together

FNDC requires a CAR for qualifying work within the boundary-to-boundary road reserve, including activity that alters the surface or changes how pedestrians, motorists or cyclists normally use the corridor.

Council directs applicants to Submitica. Where the work changes normal road or reserve conditions, the application needs a TMP describing the work, design, setup and removal.

  • Excavation and service connections
  • Vehicle crossings and footpath effects
  • Scaffolding and frontage work
  • Events and temporary closures
03

Plan for unsealed roads, bridges and remote access

FNDC's 2025/26 annual plan recorded 2,520.2 kilometres of road, including 1,602.5 kilometres unsealed, together with 721 bridges, retaining structures, a Hokianga vehicle ferry and the Twin Coast Cycle Trail.

The design and field method should account for road width, surface condition, bridge restrictions, tourism and cycle activity, and the need to preserve access to communities with few alternatives.

  • Unsealed-surface stability
  • Bridge, width and vehicle restrictions
  • Ferry and isolated-community access
  • Cycle and visitor routes
04

Recheck the route before establishment

Far North roads can be affected by flooding, washouts, slips, fallen trees and rapid access restrictions. Council's March 2026 storm reporting showed many roads closed, partially closed or limited to four-wheel-drive access.

We treat route condition as a live pre-deployment check rather than assuming that the conditions present during design will remain unchanged.

  • Weather and closure check
  • Alternate access verification
  • Equipment and crew travel plan
  • Contingency for delayed establishment
05

Establish, monitor and uplift under the issued conditions

After the authority approves the plan and grants the required access, our field service can establish the approved controls and monitor them through the work period.

Temporary road closures need a separate FNDC process. Council says the written application must be made at least eight weeks before the proposed start and will involve assessment and public notice.

  • Approved setup and pre-start check
  • Live monitoring and maintenance
  • Authorised changes only
  • Final uplift and site handback

Far North works suited to planned field delivery

Far North utilities on local roads

Traffic management for excavation, drainage, telecommunications, power, water and other works within the road reserve.

Far North development crossings and access

TMP and CAR support for new or changed accesses, frontage works, deliveries and development activity.

Remote Far North maintenance sites

Site-specific controls for narrow, unsealed or remote roads where visibility, surface and access conditions shape the setup.

Far North events requiring road closure

Planning and approved delivery aligned with the separate FNDC closure, consultation and public-notice process.

NZTA Northland operating plan

State-highway restrictions and deployment requirements.

Far North District Council approves qualifying work on local roads and NZTA approves work affecting state highways. The current Submitica pathway, TMP or WAP requirements, any separate closure approval, road condition and permitted dates must be checked for each site; YourTMP does not control the decision.

Far North CAR, closure and mobilisation questions

How is a Far North CAR submitted?

FNDC directs applicants to lodge the corridor access request through Submitica.

When is a TMP required in the Far North?

A TMP is required where the activity alters normal road or road-reserve conditions or changes normal road-user movement.

How early is a temporary road-closure application needed?

FNDC says the written application must be made at least eight weeks before the proposed start.

Can YourTMP establish rural Far North sites?

Subject to a site review and confirmed travel, crew, equipment, weather and access conditions.

10

Plan the approval and remote delivery together

Provide the road, location, work method and preferred dates so we can assess the CAR or NZTA pathway and confirm mobilisation.
